Summer Festivals

Welcome back to In The Ring! The monthly Monday blog written from the front desk of the Windsor Circus School, bringing you the updates and circus happenings from Windsor, Ontario.

Summer Semester has started! Starting today (July 2nd) until September 17th, we welcome a new batch of students, congratulate current students moving up in difficulty, and share the successes of our students personal goals. We hope everyone has enjoyed their Rest Week, our quarterly gym shut down used for equipment inspection, deep clean and update, as well as hosting some amazing workshops and prepping for the new semester. Didn’t make it to the workshops? Here’s what you missed, and how to recreate the experience:

Bring a Friend Day was a huge success! Lots of brand new circus friends that were ready to learn, and quite fearless! Everyone got to try their hand at some intro Aerial Silks skills, a juggling lesson, with a dabble into our Acro program and Lyra.

In an adult class, you can always bring a friend as long as there is room in the class. Pre-register online for you and your friend, look at the schedule page to see if there is space in the class and secure your spot. In youth classes, drop ins are only allowed for the first 5 weeks of the semester, so grab your buddy and share the circus until August 4th!

Our fantastic WCS Co-Owner and Operator Tia Bia ran a wonderful Handstand Workshop. Students learned and refined the skills needed to make a clean line and build strength and stability.

Want to not have to take the beginner floor option in your yoga class next week? Our Sunday Acro class puts a focus on handstands, come give it a shot! Pair that with a private lesson and you have yourself a new party trick. Already really good at handstands? Take an Aerial class and learn to do it in the air!

We’ve been extra busy with festival season being underway as well as the summer events around town. One of our most popular packages we can bring to your event is our Guided Play booth. Guided Play is a table full of juggling balls and spinning plates, and an instructor to teach the crowd how to use them. It’s entertaining, challenging, and a summer favourite.

This package wouldn’t be possible without our lovely friends at Higgins Brothers. The Hamilton (Dundas) based company has the finest juggling, prop and circus supply around. From making juggling balls by hand in the mid nineties to having the longest running relationship with the Cirque du Soleil, they have come a long way and we are excited that we get to share their products with you.

This month’s product feature is one of our favourite amongst staff and students alike, the four-panel, 130g World’s Finest Juggling Kit 3 ball set. These high-quality juggling balls are the perfect weight, size and actually considered the best in the world.

When juggling balls are too light, it is difficult to fix small mistakes mid-throw as the smallest movement changes the path of the ball too much. Too heavy, and you have the opposite problem, not enough give. These are perfect for both beginners and experts.

The most common question we receive about World’s Finest is if they last. We currently have a very recognizable teal and white set on the front desk at the WCS, pretty much at all times. It was a jugglers personal set that was gifted to Tia that we can estimate is at least 8 years old. They have worn wonderfully, and are always said to be the most comfortable set anyone grabs during juggling class.

Pick up your World’s Finest Juggling Kit at the Windsor Circus School for $25.00, or come try out our juggling class to take some other props for a spin!

Speaking of juggling class, our wonderful Props Instructor Jason Henderson (@kobblerjayshow) and the WCS have teamed up to bring you this year’s festival of the summer, Buskerville Fest! Buskerville will be taking place August 10th - 12th on the corner of Wyandotte and Argyle and in the Walkerville Brewery bringing you the best of the best in busking performers.
